1. Windows Update Troubleshooter

The first troubleshooting option you can try is Microsoft’s own Windows update Troubleshooter for Windows 10.  From the Windows 10 Creators Update, you will find it in Start > Settings > Update & safety > Troubleshoot, click Windows Update then click Run the troubleshooter.

If you’re running Windows 10 Anniversary Update or a previous version of Windows, click Start, type: troubleshooting hit Enter then launch the Windows Update troubleshooter.

2. Media Creation Tool or Windows 10 Setup Media

4. Delete the Software Distribution Folder

When you’ve reached this way, and Windows Update is still not working, then this probably calls for some innovative tinkering. Before carrying out this process, disconnect from the net. That means turning off Wi-Fi and disconnecting from a wired connection.

step 1: Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then choose “Command Prompt (Admin)” in the menu.
step 2: Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Repair Services. To do so, type the following commands in a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

• net stop wuauserv
• net stop cryptSvc
• net stop bits
• net stop msiserver

step 3: Now rename the Software Distribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do so by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

step 4: Type Exit from the Command Prompt to shut it and then restart the computer.

5. Perform a Repair Upgrade

When you have carried all of the above, but Windows Updates not downloading remains stubborn, then a fixed upgrade is the best choice. With this step, you must reconnect to the net.
